SIX ACCUSED IN COURT
SENTENCES OF IMPRISONMENT
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.J OrOTIKI. Wednesday. Two Maori lads, Motu Kirikiri and John Belmont, were charged that on August 13, they stole ono case of whisky, valued at £6, the property of Messrs. Walker Bros., from the Opotiki wharf shed. The accused elected to he dealt with summarily, and were sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Four other Maoris, Dan Rcwini, aged 27, Mala Mokomoko, 18, Eru Tai, 18, and Porangi Tai, 18, were charged with breaking and entering, and also with the theft of half a pound of butter and a tin of salmon, the properly of C. W. Reid. By consent the charges were reduced to common theft, to which all accused pleaded guilty. Rcwini and Mokomoko, who were first offenders, were sentenced to imprisonment for seven days. The other accused, who each had a previous conviction, were sentenced to imprisonment for 14 days.
