INCREASE IN LADY PLAYERS
BASIS OF HANDICAPPING.
[llY TKLEGIt APJI. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday The annual general meeting of tho Now Zealand Golf Association was held tonight, Mr. \V. E. A. Gill, president of the association, presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the chairman stated an analysis of the revenue account showed that the surplus for (he year amounted to only £32 8s 6d. This was accounted for by tho cost of the Kirk-Windeyer Cup contest and championship courses. Although New Zealand did not retain the Kirk-Windeycr Cup the team was not disgraced During Mr. A. D. &. Duncan's visit to Australia tho question of Iho future competition was discussed with prominent golfers and there appeared to he some doubt whether (he various states in Australia would be able to play eliminating rounds. It was quite on the cards that at some early date the conditions of the competition would have to bo altered so that, tho cup would be played for between representative teams from Australia and New Zealand. Iho date of the next competition had not been decided but it was anticipated that it would lie about June. Tho chairman mentioned the council was very much concerned becauso the men's membership was declining while the number of lady golfers was increasing. It might bo that' the clubs had been returning wrong records. Tho following members of tho council were re-clected without opposition Mr. W. E. A. Gill, Sir A. F. Roberts, Messrs. A. I>. S. Duncan, 11. R. Balneavis, J.Crombie, W. A. Kiely, and L. 0. H. Tripp. The retiring auditors, Messrs. VVatkins. Hull, Hunt, arid Wheeler, were reappointed. On the motion of the chairman a resolution : " That this meeting of delegates agrees to provide perpetual miniature cups in commemoration of Mr. Ivirk s good work for golf in New Zealand," was carried. A motion that'in view of the fact that the New Zealand Council had gone to so much trouble in allotting scratch scores to a large number of clubs these clubs he requested to use the scratch score as a basis of handicapping, and that every affiliated club be advised of tho system of applying the scratch score in framing tho handicaps was carried. Mr. Fryer moved: "That it be a strong recommendation to the council to considei the question of sending a team of professionals to the next Australian championship meeting." The chairman said it would be only a question of (he council fathciing the scheme and clubs doing tho rest. The motion was c,irried.
