RECLAIMING THE LAND.

VAST AREAS IN GREECE. BRITISH FIRMS' CONTRACT. (Received October 7, 5.3 p.in.) Eritish Wireless. RUGBY, Oct. G. On his recent visit to London, Mr. iVenizelos, Premier of Greece, met Mr. Charles Boot, head of a firm of public works contractors, and Sir Murdock MacDonald, head of a well-known firm of consulting engineers. He has now entrusted them with the task of reclaiming and where possible irrigating vast areas of land on the plains of Thessaly and in Epirus and other districts of Greece for the benefit of agriculture. The works involved will ultimately cost at least £10.000,000. The necessary surveys will take about two years and will engage a large staff of engineers and surveyors. This programme of work is in continuation of the policy of the Greek Government to make all the land inside its present borders available for its people. 'lheir numbers have been largely reinforced by tho return within recent years of about 1,800.000 repatriated Greeks from Asia Minor.
