ENGLISH TEST CRICKET. NEITHER ELEVEN IN FORM. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, June 17. In a test trial cricket match at Lord's between England and the Rest, the latter, in their first innings, scored 307 runs (Jardine 48, O'Connor 48, Staples not out 38, Nichols 38). The play was not reassuring. The bowling was unconvincing, but the wickot was dead after Thursday's rain. Lanvood was the only successful man with the ball, but the pitch did not suit him. Six wickets were down for 133 when Ames and O'Connor added 71 in 45 minutes. England's fielding, except that of Chapman, was ordinary. Hobbs made his first appearance since he tore the muscles of one of his legs 10 days ago, but the exertion of fielding before luncheon brought, on the trouble again. However, he hopes to bat on Monday. LAWN TENNIS IN ENGLAND. INTERNATIONAL MATCH. Australian Press Association—-United Service LONDON. June 17. Twenty-five thousand spectators witnessed the defeat of the English League footballers by Queensland on Saturday. The first half was fairly evenly contested, but the Queenslanders' superiority was shown in the score of 10 to 4 at halftime. On resuming, Laws, Queensland's centre, retired hurt. Armbruster filled the gap. In a momentary indecision regarding a pass, Fairclough seized an opportunity and scored cleverly. This brought England within three points of 1 the Queenslanders. Shortly afterwards, Burgess, who was captaining the Englishmen in the absence of Parkin, was ordered off. Ho had been cautioned earlier. Toward the close of the game, Sellars, a Queenslander, was also ordered off. The last part of the game was marked by a good deal of roughness. Though the Englishmen made a good defence, the local men had things much their own way. The final score was 21 points to 7 in their favour. NEW ZEALAND BOWLERS. VICTORY IN IRELAND.
