TAURANGA MAORI'S DEATH.
WELL KNOWN IN DISTRICT. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA, Friday. The death has occurred of Mr. William Edwards, one of the best known natives of this district. Ho was born at Maungatapau, near Tauranga, 66 years ago, and migrated to Taranaki with his foster parents shortly after the battle of Gate Pa. He lived for many years at Oeo and returned to Tauranga about twelve years ago. He took a keen interest in boating and in the deep-sea fishing centring on Mayor Island, of which he was the principal owner. Mr. Zane Grey had engaged Mr. Edwards in connection with his contemplated visit to Mayor Island this year. Deceased was also an enthusiastic bowler. He leaves a wife and a family of three. The body was conveyed to Maungatapau this afternoon whore a tangi is to be held. The interment will take place in the Pukerua burial ground at To Awahou, on the shores of Lake Rotorua.
