NORTHERN UNION CUP.

LEAGUE FOOTBALL CONTEST. SOUTH AUCKLAND'S FORWARDS. CHANGES IN THE LOCAL TEAM. The first representative fixture of the season will be played at Carlaw Park this afternoon when the South Auckland representatives will defend the Northern Union Challenge Cup against the Auckland thirteen. The visitors are generally considered to be a strong side, particularly in the forward division, which should more than hold its own against the local vanguard. Included in the South Auckland scrum is T. tfimms, whose dashing game for the North against the South Island last season will be readily remembered. Timms on that occasion was the best forward on the ground. J. Menzies was a member of the 1926 New Zealand team which toured England, and he is fast and a splendid handler in passing rushes. Stephenson has been included in many South Auckland teams. Besides being a good hooker he is one of tho best types of front row forwards playing the game. The visitors' backs may lack the combination of tho Auckland team, but favoured with a good share of tho ball they are capable of playing fast, open football. Everest made a good impression last year when he stood out prominently against a good Auckland back division. The fiveeighths, Jackways and Smith, are clever on attack. Owing to indisposition Gregory and Moisley are unable to play for the Auckland team. They have been replaced by Prentice and Ruby in their respective positions. The alteration will weaken the local pack, as Ruby is not considered a front row forward, and the positions in the scrum may liave to be rearranged. However, the local vanguard will bo a hard team to beat in the open, but its superiority in tho scrums will be well challenged by tho visitors. Both teams are requested to assemble at the Tepid Baths. Mr. L. Bull has been appointed to referee the match, which will commence at 2.45, and is expected to draw a large attendance. The teams now will bo as follows: SOUTH AUCKLAND. Fullback.—W. Sherlock. Threequarters.—B. Paki, E. Everest, S. Raynor. Five-eighths.—N. Jackways, W. Smith. Halfback. —C. Davies. Forwards.—J. Menzies, R> Stephenson, J. Farrell, B. Jackways, T. Timms, J. Jones. Reserves.—T. Hopa, H. Mason, P. Miki, D. Williams. AUCKLAND. Fullback. —Dufty (Newton). Threequarters.—L.
