HOSPITAL FOR PAEROA.
MINISTER URGED TO ACT. VIEW OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. [Br TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA. Friday. On receiving notification from tho Thames lospital Board of the amount of the annual levy required from the Paeroa Borough Council the Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, stated at last evening's meeting that the information given was a fitting introduction to a discussion about the progress made with reference to the erection of a maternity and casualty hospital at Paeroa. Mr. P. E. Brenan, the council's representative on the Hospital Board, and a member of the deputation which waited on the Minister of Health, Hon. J. A. Young, at Hamilton on May 30, briefly outlined the position. In the opinion of Mr. Brenan' the resolution carried by a majority of the Hospital Board members at the meeting on Monday was only a further attempt to defer the erection of the building. The Mayor said it was evident that tho board did not intend to erect the hospital. He moved: "That this council forward to tho Minister of Health its sincere appreciation of the stand that he has taken in the matter of the erection of a maternity hospital at Paeroa, and in view of the attitude of the Thames Hospital Board toward the Minister's dofinito request this council earnestly petitions the Minister to proceed with the erection of tho institution at an early date. The resolution was carried unanimously.
