GIRL GUIDES.
The Girl Guide movement was honoured on Saturday afternoon by the visit of the Dominion president, Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergnsson, to Otimai, the Guiders' Home, situated on the slopes of is being held there for Brown Owis and Tawny. Owls by Miss O'Rorke, the Owl (Diplomad Guider for Brownies), and Saturday afternoon was an open one for parents and friends. Upon her arrival, Her Excellency was received by the Chief Commissioner, Mrs. W. R. Wilson, and by Miss O'Rorke, and a song of welcome was sung by the Owls. Then a demonstration Brownie Pack meeting was held bv the Eagle Owl, Brown and Tawny Owls acting as Brownies. Everyone present was most interested and realised something of the working of the Guide movement—how the Brownies, the "Little Sisters," are taught by games; and fairy tales the simple health rules and moral laws upon which the Guide laws are framed. Afternoon tea wa3 then served and later Her Excellency addressed the Brown and Tawny. Owis, and thanked them for their welcome and demons tration, and congratulated them on their realistic "make-believe." She expressed pleasures at hearing that many of the Brown Owls had come from all parts of the province, and urged them to continue their work with zeal and enthusiasm, and to carry the torch of guiding into all parts of the Dominion.- As a present to the new home, Her Excellency donated a framed portrait of herself—to be hung in the big meeting room.' A very nappy afternoon was brought to a close by the "Brownies" forming a circle round Her Excellency's car and singing a Brownie song of farewell, and giving three ringing cheers for their guest of honour.
