FLIGHTS TO AUSTRALIA.
INDEPENDENT ENTERPRISE BRITISH AIRMAN'S PLAfdS. STARTING IN A MONTH. By~ Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. A. aud N.Z. LONDON, April G. Another flight to Australia from Britain is contemplated. The attempt will be made by a member of the A|r Force, Flight-Lieutenant' Wanning. He has not yet fixed the date of his departure, but it will probably be in a month from now. The second seat space in the monoplane to be used will be taken up by a petrol tank. The plane has a erasing speed of 75 to 80 miles an hour and a range of 1000 miles. The route will bo via Lyons, Versailles, Sardinia, Tunis, and the North African coast. After that it will be the same as Mr. Bert Hinkler's. Manning has taken half-pay leave from the Air Force in order to carry out the flight, which has in no sense been planned to rival that of Hinkler. Every opportunity wil'be taken to speed up if the conditions aj - e favourable, though the only means of reducing Hinkler's time would be to go \*ithout sleep. Lieutenant Manning owns the machino and is to make the flight without support from any source. RED ROSE'S JOURNEY. ARRIVAL AT MELBOURNE. ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. (Received April 8, 5.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE. April 8. The English airman Captain Lancaster and Mrs. Keith Miller, of Melbourne, in their aeroplane Red Rose arrived here to-day, thus completing their flight from England.
