NEW ZEALAND PORK.
EXPORTS TO AUSTRALIA. FURTHER DUTY SOUGHT. A. and N.S. SYDNEY, Jan. 28. Tho Sydney Daily Telegraph says an impending move on tho part of producers is an application for an increase in duty on bacon and pork. This is being directed chiefly against New Zealand, which country provides the greater part of Australia's importations of these products. The competition of the Dominion in these markets is regarded as altogether unfair to local pig raisers since the New Zealand Government, to foster the trade, has granted a bonus on exported pork. Trade returns show that, last year Australia exported 1,814,0001b. of bacon and ham and imported 375,0001b., of which 362,0001b. came from New Zealand. The exports of pork totalled 481,0001b., while the imports amounted to 733,0001b., of which New Zealand supplied all but 2001b.
