BATTLESHIP RODNEY.
STEAMING TRIALS BEGUN.
DEPARTURE FROM PLYMOUTH
(British Official Wireless.) (Beceived December 30, 7.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY, Dec. 29. The new battleship Rodney left Plymouth to-day for her 24 hours steaming trials in the English Channel. Tho Rodney and her sister-ship, the Nelson, are the two battleships which Britain was authorised to construct undei the Washington Treaty of naval limitation, and are the heaviest and most powerfully armed fighting vessels in the world. Each has a displacement of 35,000 tons, whereas the threo American battleships of the Maryland class displace only 32.000 tons each. The British vessels are the only battleships allowed to be built by Britain, America or Japan until 1931, when Britain may lay down two which will replace four of the Iron Duke class, America two in replacement of the Florida, Utah, and Wyoming, and Japan one to replace the Kongo.
