SCHOOL ROBBERY.
LADY TEACH ERS* LOSSES, CHEQUE CASHED IN CITY. INCIDENT AT TAKAPUNA. The discovery that the lady teachers lockers at the Takapuna Grammar School had been ransacked during the morning was made when the classes adjourned at nooft yesterday. Hasty investigation of handbags revealed that money and valuables were missing. At least one lady was a heavy loser, a cheque for one month's salary, received the previous day, having been taken. Three other ladies lost various sums in cash.
The matter was reported at once to the headmaster, Mr. C. M Littlejohn, who communicated with the police. Instructions to stop payment of the cheque pfoved useless. It had been presented in Auckland, and cashed at a bank about the time the theft was discovered.
It is supposed the thief was aware that the monthly cheques were due, and that teachers resident in Takapuna might not have had opportunity to cash or bank their cheques. The lockers which were rifled were customarily lefi unfastened, as it was considered a remote possibility that an intruder could enter the school unnoticed.
