Mr. and Mrs L. J. Lewis, of Adelaide, and Mr. and Mrs, L. Mills, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. E. N. Carlton, of Rhodesia, South Africa, and Mr. F. W Ivey, of Palmerston North, are at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. A. J. Munro, of Wellington, Mr. A F. Johnston, of Dunedin, and Mr. J. Goodey, of Wanganui, are at the Royal Hotel. Mr. A. Hall, of Helensville, Mr. A. Fisher, of Nethertop and Mr. G. Melville, of Whakatane, are at the Commercial Hotel. 1 Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Wootton, of Malay States, arrived by the Ulimaroa yesterday. Bates, collector of customs at Apia, Samoa, was a passenger by the Tofua vesterday. Accompanied by Mrs. Bates, ho. will spend three months' holiday in the Domin : on. Mr. W. Appleton, managing director of the Charles Haines Advertising Agencv, and a member 6f the Wellington Hospital Board, returned by the Ulir.iaroa yesterday from a visit to Australia. He left by train for Wellington last evening. /
Mr. Justice Sim, chairmatji of the Prisons Board, Mr. B. L. Dalkird, ControllerGeneral of Prisons and chief probation officer, and members of the Prisons Board, who have been in Auckland during the past few days,•will return to Wellington by train this evening. Dr. T. Ritchie, chief medical officer of health at Samoa, arrived by the Tofua yesterday. For several weeks Dr. Ritchie ha? been in hospital at Apia suffering from a severe attack of influenza, and he is visiting the Dominion to recuperate. He is accompanied by Mrs. Ritchie. Mr. W Andreas and Mr. J. Williamson, of Sydney, arrived by the Ulimaroa yesterday to spend six weeks in the Dominion, principally fishing at the Bay of Islands. Mr. Andreas is a son of Mr. W, Andreas, who will pay his : 'usual visit to the big fishing grounds about February. Professor E. J. Iddings, Dean of Agriculture and Director of the Agricultural Experimental Station of the University of Idaho. United States, arrived at Auckland by the Ulimaroa from Sydney yesterday New Zealand is his last place of call in a world tour spent in the inspection of farming research institutions. Mr. W. Coles, Mr. E. L. Coles and Mr. H. W. Stokes, of London, Mr. S T. Spain and Mr, G. Spain, of Alexandria, Egypt, Mr. R. ' Schnuberger, of Melbourne, Dr. S. H. Martin, of Adelaide, Mr E. F. Andrae, and Mr. J. Williamson. <*' Sydney, Mr. A. P. Hollings. Mr. A. W. Hawlev and Mr. W. Cahill. of Wellington, Mr J. B. Wilkin, of Christ church, and Mr. E. C. Jordan, o; Te Kuiti. are at the Grand Hotel. Professor W. N. Benson, professor of Geology and Mineralogy at Otago University, returned by the Ulimaroa yesterday from Sydney, and left for the South by train last evening. His visit to Australia was occasioned by the death of his father, but while there he collaborated with Sir T. Edgeworth David, one time head of the Department of Geology of Sydney University, and during the war chief geologist of the British Army, in a book he is writing on the geology of Australia. Several chapters are to be contributed bv Professor Benson.
