PRESENTATIONS.
At the luncheon of the Karangahapa Road Business Promotion Society yesterday presentations were made to Mr. J. P. Donald, the retiring manager of the Newton branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, a position which he has held since 1908. Mr. M- J. Bennett, in presenting Mr. Donald with a handsome illuminated address, on behalf of the society, referred to the high esteem in which Mr. Donald was held, and expressed appreciation of his valuable services as a member of the executive. Ho conveyed the best wishes of the society for the happiness of Mr. Donald and his wife in his retirement. Mr. G. E. Hutchinson, on behalf of clients of the bank, presented Mr, Donald with a purse of sovereigns. He said the cordial relations between the manager and his clients during a long period, which included critical years n* the development of the district, was eloquent testimony of Mr. Donald's ability and persona! qualities. Mr. Donald suitably replied. Members of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Dental Association gathered on Monday evening to bid farewell to Mr. C. H. Moses, who leaves next, week on a world tour. In presenting Mr Moses with a pair of binoculars, Mr. C» L. Taylor, president of the New Zealand Dental Association, referred to the excellent service which the guest, had carried out on behalf of tlie association, and wished him a pleasant trip abroad. A farewell social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Napier in the Thornton Hall by residents of Thornton, prior to the departure of the guests for Northcote, Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Napier have been over 14 years at Thornton, being among the pioneers of that portion of the Rangttaiki Plains. Both guests were highly esteemed in the district. Mr. A. Sheat. another pioneer settler of the district, paid a high tribute to the guests who, lie said, had come to Thornton when the country was in a virgin state and practically roadless. Conditions were very different today On behalf of the settlers of Thornton. Mr. Sheat presented Mr. Napier with a case of pipes and Mrs. Napier with a handbag and a dressing case. The Rev. W W Lambert made reference to Mrs. Napier's interest in Church work, and on behalf of the. Anglican Church peonle of Thornton presented her with a Prayer Book.
