BURNED TO DEATH.
A WOMAN'S SAD END. ENTRAPPED BY FLAMES. A woman named Ethel Maud Landers, aged 43, was burned to death in a fire which occurred at Woolahra, recently, says a Sydney paper When the Paddington fire brigade reached thra scene of the fire, about 4.30 a.m , the residence of Mrs Landers was well alight, and the building was severely damaged before the outbreak was extinguished A neighbour, Mrs Clulow, gave the alarm, having beer awakened by the crackling of timber The building was a two-storey liouse of eight rooms, and Mrs Landers lived alone in the house Mrs Clulow informed the police that soon after discovering the fire she heard screams in the building, and the firemen endeavoured, while subduing the flames, to locate Mrs Landers Her charred body waa subsequently discovered at the foot of the stairs The woman was apparently caught by the flames while making an effort to escape Mrs. Landers was a native of Gipps land, Victoria
