REJECTION OF PROPOSALS.

DECISION BY NARROW MARGIN.

[BZ TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The poll of Wellington ratepayers on the new city loan of £290,000 was held to-day, and resulted in 2450 votes for the proposal and 2502 against. Informal votes numbered 41. Severity declaration votes are yet to come. The loan is practically certain to be rejected. There are. 28,853 names on the ratepayers' roll.

The loan proposals provided for an expenditure of £234,000 upon street paving, of which sum £131,000 was to be spent on bitumen roads and £53,000 on tar and bitumen sealing. In all 33 1-3 miles of bitumen roads were provided ior and 83 2-3 miles of tar and bitumen sealed roads. It was also proposed to spend £30,000 upon footpaths and £26.875 on public facilities.
