AMATEUR BILLIARDS.

I • AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. WHITE RETAINS THE TITLE. The Auckland amateur billiards championship wa« won last evening by M. D. White, who defeated E. J. Morrison in the final match. 1000--S3O. White thus retains tue title and Billiards. Ltd. Shield. There was a large attendance at Billiards, -td.. showrooms. including many ladies. White, who had a lead of 104 at tile earlier session, increased his lead to 170, when he ran to points. The session points of the previous evening were White, 501. in play; Morrison. 391. White's best breaks were 20. 32. 31. 20 35. 37. 21. 23, 55, 60 and 34 unfinished. Morrison: 66. 29. 32. 27 .24 and 27. The winner's average for the 1000 was 7.3, the loser's 5.9. Mr. C. Cummms. on behalf of Messrs. Billiards, Ltd.. congratulated the players upon their fine efforts, and presented White with the Billiards, Ltd. Shield (which will be held by his club. the Commercial Travellers, for one yean, and gold medal for the Auckland provincial championship. The runner-tip, Morrison, was presented with the set of billiard balls used in the tournament. The prise for the _ highest hreak was also won by White, for his sp'en did effort of 98 Mr W. E. Haekett re plied on behalf of the players. A collection for charity was taken up during the tournament. and the sum of JTII 12s was handed to the Rev Jasper Calder. the city missioner. To-night a chanty match in aid of the same funds will be commenced between E V Roberts. New Zealand amateur eh amnion. and A. C. Crossan. the well-known Glasgow professional champion The 'SOO points will be played in two sessions of "?50 each on Friday and Saturday evenings.
