NOTICE GIVEN TO QUIT.

WINTER AEEA FOR YICHTS.

HARBOUR BOARD'S DECISION.

LEASES TO BE AUCTIONED.

FREEMAN'S BAY DEVELOPMENT

The hauling-out area for yachts and launches in Beaumont Street, Freeman's Bay, which has been used by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and the Victoria Cruising Club for many years, is to be offered for lease at auction by the Auckland Harbour Board at an early date. The board has decided to give boatowners three months notice to remove their craft.

The Victoria Cruising Club's boathouse will also have to be moved, but there is reasonable prospect that it will be allowed to remain on the present site for a longer period than the yachts and launches. The closing of the hauling-out area will bo a big loss to boat-owners, who have experienced much difficulty in recent years in finding suitable accommodation for their craft during the winter months. Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, chairman of the Harbour Board, stated yesterday that in all'probability the board would make provision for a slipway and hauling-out area in Mechanics' Bay, east of Luna Park* At a meeting of the board this week the Akarana Yacht Club was granted a site in Mechanics' Bay for its new clubhouse, a start on which will be made at an early date. The area is 41ft. by 100 ft. The Harbour Board has entered into a new agreement regarding the Kauri Timber Company's leases in Fanshawe Street, facing the waterfront. This is the result of the board being advised that it would be liable for obstructing its tenant by the construction of a railway viaduct, which would block the company's access to the sea., It has now been agreed that the company will waive all objections, and will receive from the board what amounts to practically £6OO a year for the remainder of the term of its present leases, which expire in 1934. Certain sections in Beaumont Street will be leased to the company at an annual rental of £6OO, instead of the upset value of £1250. This concession may continue for 15 years, but may possibly expire before that period has elapsed.
