Sir,—Mr. Holdswcrth suggests to Tamaki that shg becomes a partner of the city. The city finances in round figures are - Assets, millions; ii&bilities, 6A millions. An additional loan of li millions, if authorised, will leave a debit balance of half a million. When asked to what extent the rates would be increased, I? the above loan was carried, Mr. Holdsworth stated that on revenue-producing loans no rate was struck, but it is to be noted that the half million transport loan is not productive, for £46,000 was lost in this department last year. Mr. Holdsworth failed to tell his audience that Grey Lynn joined forces with the city on the following three conditions: (1) J"<o increase in rates for seven years. (2) Water to be charged to the Grey Lynn ratepayers at the same price as the city ratepayers. (3) That £IIO,OOO was to be spent on the Grey Lynn roads immediately, to bring the Grey Lynn rates on a par with the city rates. These conditions were carried out. City and Tamaki Ratepayer.
