! SCHEME IN MANAWATU. LARGE AMOUNT INVOLVED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PAIiMERSTON NORTH. Tuesday. A conference was held this morning between the Manawatu-Ororua River Board and 13 local bodies cited by it to appear before the commission set*up.to determine the . basis, of. contribution: toward the board's £450,000 flood control scheme.. It was mentioned that 70,000 acres of laud were affected and that the scheme provided for shortening the length of the Manawatu River from Longburn Bridge to the sea by over. 30 miles. The chairman of the board said the State would have: to pay £250,000 to enable the project to be carried out.
