ELECTORAL SCANDAL.
REBUTTAL OF ALLEGATIONS. " CHARGES UTTERLY ABSURD." A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. May 4. In tho course of his evidence before the Federal Electoral Commission Mr. Allars, chief electoral officer, produced official statistics which disproved the evidence of alleged wholesale personation given by a witness last month. Mr. Allars said the charges were utterly absurd. Similar rebuttals were given by officials connected with the Labour unions and persons regarding whom the allegations were made.
A cablegram from Sydney on April 24 stated that sensational evidence was given before the Federal Electoral Commission by a witness Who bad acted as publicity agent in various elections for the_ Nationalist and also for the Labour Parties. This witness alleged that wholesale dummying " was committed in the East Sydney electorate at the last Federal and State elections. lie said a system had been organised for years, mostly on behalf of Labour. When he was working for. Lalv. our, witness said, ho was a party to this impersonation. Ho had to be blind to it, otherwise he would have lost bis.employment. - ■■ ' •
