CONFERENCE IN AUSTRALIA. MR. J. CAUGHLEY TO ATTEND. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ■WELLINGTON. Thursday. The director of education, Mr. J. Caughley, has returned from the South Island, where he has been engaged with junior high school matters in Waimate and Christchurch. On April 30 ho will leave for Australia to take part in a conference of directors of education. Hie directors of all the Australian States are expected to be present, and recent developments in educational policy will be discussed. Included in the agenda paper are ths following subjects:—Education of backward and defective children, extension of tho compulsory age, vocational training, post-primary education, training of teachers, education of children in remote districts by correspondence and part-time instruction, spelling reform and education by broadcasting. The conference wul be held in Brisbane.
