HERALD ANNUAL PICNIC.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. RESULTS OF SPORTS EVENTS. The Hesam picnic was held at Ferndale, Henderson, on Saturday, and in spite of the inclement weather, eleven charabancs, in addition to private cars, were required to convey the employees and their friends. Children's sports were held and were followed by novelty events and races. Results were as follow: Herald Handicap.—Ellison, 1; Cullum, 2; Billfett, 3. Ladies' Handicap.—Miss G-ulam, 1; Miss Rae, 2; Miss T. Bellingham, 3. Departmental Relay Race (for cup presented by Mrs. W, R. Wilson).—Letterpress, 1; News Room, 2; Bindery, 3. Stepping the Chain.—Miss Hunt, 1; Mrs. Wheelbarrow Race.—Miss, McLeay and Mr. J. B. Steele, -1; Miss Rae and Mr. Smith, 2. . _ , Hop, Step and Jump.—Smith, 1; Rusden. 2. Golf Drive.—Ladiea, Mrs. Lenihan; men, Mr. O'Connor. A very enjoyable outing terminated with a dance in the new hall.
