ON THE RACECOURSE.

Sir, —As an amateur in horse racing may I ask if it is an honest thing to " run a bye." I have been amazed to hear racing men talk in tones of acquiescence in regard to this practice. Has it become the accepted thing ? It' so how do such owners feel toward tho people, often numbering hundreds, who back their horses on these occasions ? It may be an important feature of training to give a horse a gallop in a race when the instructions are not to "knock it about," but surely as far as the great public of casual betters is concerned, tho chance of winning should be slightly different to that at tho roulette table. The Raven.
