BOUT AT TAUMARUNUI. Mcknight beats lasher. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN COnnESPONDENT. ] TAUMARUNUI, Monday. Nelson McKnight defeated Larry Lasher in eight rounds of a 15-rounds professional welter-weight contest on Saturday evening. McKnight was the acme of fitness and with, youth and reach on his side was a pronounced favourite. Although the match only went half way when Lasher threw in the towel there was very little difference between the competitors on actual points, McKnight having a small lead, but there was little doubt that from the eighth round on ho would have punished Lasher severely. Hath men - fought cleanly. The matoh was remarkably free from infringements avd tho refers, Mr. li. Meale. had an e.isy task. After weighing up his opponent ir; the first round McKnigbt used a T telling right throughout each session on Lasher s lace. He used both hands well at times and defended cleverly in close work. Lasher appeared to reiy on an overarm left bw*"* which McKnight invariably took on the shoulder, but in close fighting McKnight Bent in some dangerous right and left rips. There was only half a pound difference. m weight between the contestants, this being in lavour of Lasher.
