RATING WATERSHED LANDS.
AREAS IN WA ITEM ATA. A CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. A conference between the Parks and Waterworks Committees of the Auckland City Council and representatives of the Waitemata County Council is to be held to consider the question of the rating of watershed lands belonging to the city and lying within the boundaries of the county. In a communication received by the City Council at its meeting last evening asking for a conference, the County Council stated that the committee of the House of Representatives set up to deal with the- petition of Farley and others on this rating question had recommended: "That, if not already ratable by law as is understood to be the case, the committee recommends legislation to make Corawallis Park and Kaitarakahi Park liable for rates: that as regards Waikumete-West Coast Road, the committee recommends that the Auckland City Council and Waitemata County Council should confer with a view to the City Council making some contribution to the construction and upkeep of this road, and that, failing some fair and equitable agreement, petitioners should again approach Parliament." It was decided to arrange a conference as suggested on a date to suit the parties. The Waitemata County Council also wrote stating that the City Council had for some years past paid the sum oi £IOO annually to the county for the cost of cutting'back the scrub on the WaikumetoWest Coast Road and removing fallen trees. Application was again made for the payment. This matter was deferred pending the outcome of the conference.
