THE COMMUNIST CUCKOO.
Sir.—The old motto, "Nemo me impune Sacessit," with its less stately, hut sturdy, Doric interpretation, "Nano danr meddle wi me," is a sentiment -which would greatly benefit the Empire at the present time. * The British Constitution has been built up on the foundations of justice, law and order, and round these- have been woven with infinite patience, legislation progressively good. Britain's sons and daughters were reared and sheltered in this safe, storm-proof nest, and later on went forth io build for themselves on similar lines, and with the same courage and endurance. In the Old Country at the nesting time the birds build their nests, working hard with very varied materials and making warm, comfortable nests for their eggs. When all are complete a strange bird comes round and inspects them. At last, selecting the largest cosiest and most suitable to her mind, she lays an egg and flies off. The surprised owners of the nest take it philosophically and when the fledglings appear feed them all, but the intruder is a larger, more determined, creature and grabs more than its share. Then, too, it feels cramped and wants more room, so by dint of pushing and squeezing and kicking it often gets, first one and then another of the lawful brood out of the nest. Communists stand in very much the sama relation to the British people in the British colonies as well as at 'Home. Let them go to some land and build up for themselves such a constitution as suits their ideals, but do not let them spoil the British brood and make ructions in the British nest. We ; do not need Communist cuckoos. Thistle.
