TUB THUMPING.
Sir, —It anyone is in doubt as to the truth of the" adage that "empty vessels make . the .most sound," Mr.. Way's address in Garfield Street last week would surely convince them! He seeim, to think that a man's aptitude for Parliament consists in the amount of hot air he can get off. The present disastrousstrike is an instance of the mischief and misery that can bo caused by these irre- ! sponsible gasbags. Mr. Way calls Mr. Dickson a sphinx, and he could not pay him a greater compliment. The sphinx could answer questions which no one else could, and only spoke when it had something to say. Mr. Way says he is going to make him speak. Surely that is a disservice to the community. _ There is enough btmkum talked and time wasted in Parliament without people going there with the sole object of hearing their own voices. The Ancients said, "Speech is silver, but silence is golden," and if Mr. Wav knew more than he does he would know that the greatest men have been distinguished for silence and taciturnity. Instead of teaching Mr. Dickson to talk if he would teach the worker to work he would be conferring & blessing on the community. Then Mr. Way tells us the workers are underpaid and cannot Duild their own houses. "S on have only to sit on the bench at the top of St. Stephen s Avfinuc and see the overladen trams, buses and everv available conveyance carrying them in their thousands to the race's to nut their money on the tote, znu most likely leave it there. Parnell is a hirrhlv prosperous, contented and wellconducted community, and we don't want anv tub thumping, soap-box orators to represent us in Parliament- If wo havs any urgent need, and I can t ,see o Mr Dickson is quite able to ge„ il. us" as he has done in the past. U:>! PARNEIJJTE-
