ST. KiLDA BOROUGH. - ,f',n .■ . \ AMALGAMATION POLL LOST. [by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIN, "Wednesday. - The poll on the proposal for the St. Kilda Borough Council to amalgamate with the city of Dunedin was taken today, and resulted in a defeat of the proposal by 854 votes, 926 voting for and 1780 against it. The total voting strength of the borough is 4274, and 2760 availed themselves of the privilege, 54 votes .being informal.

Both parties were canvassing for some weeks beforehand, and widespread interest was taken in the poll. Five years ago the proposal was lost by only ,11 votes.
