GLEN EDEN AFFAIRS.

TOWN BOARD'S DECISIONS. COMPLAINTS ABOUT DRAINAGE. The Glen Eden Town Board met on Monday evening. The Health Department again wrote drawing the attention of the board to a further five houses on the West Coast Road about which it had had complaints regarding defective drainage. The department requested that action be taken by the board. It was decided to draw the attention of each owner to the matter and request that the defects bo remedied immediately. It was stated that ten building permits had been issued during August to the value of £5970. The State Advances Office advised that the balance of the £SOOO loan had been placed at the disposal of the board. Further improvement to the entrance of Prospect Road was authorised. The board decided to communicate with the Railway Department regarding nuisance created by the growing practice of smoking in non-smoking carriages. This was thought to be due largely to the indiscriminate practice of lie department of labelling non-smokers as " smokers," with the result that smoking became general in all carriages. "It was decided to write to the Auckland City Council asking for financial aid in the reconstruction of the Glen Eden portion of the West Coast Road, and also to write to the Waitemata County Council seeking co-operation in the matter. The Valuation Department wrote advising that the revaluation of the district would b© carried out in time for the striking of rates for the year commencing April 1, 1926. In regard to a letter from the Waitemata County Council suggesting that the board take the necessary steps to have the 1924 agreement gazetted, it was decided to reply that the board would be willing to do this and so expidite matters, provided the Waitemata Council was willing to pay half the cost. The proposed West Coast Road footpath was inspected on Saturday, and it was decided that the work be gone on with on the lines recommended, in order to lessen the cost, an offer for the removal of the obstructing pines having been received. It was decided to thank Sir James Parr for his successful efforts in expediting the availability of loan moneys. ==========
