CONTESTS IN AMERICA.: WILLS KNOCKS OUT WEINERT % » HARRY GREB DEFEATS WALKER. \ , ' By Teleeraph—Press Association— Copy rieht. (Received tf.s p.m.]' A. and N.Z.-Reuter. NEW YORK. July 2. Harry Wills, the negro challenger for Jack Dempsey's title of champion heavyweight boxer of the world, knocked out Charley Weinert in the second round of a contest which had been scheduled to go 15 rounds. Wills outclassed Weinert from the first bell and the latter was finally felled by a right uppercut to the chin. Prior to the knock-out Wills had sunk several mighty blacksmith-like blows wrist-deep into Weinert's body. These took the breath out. of Weinert and made him gasp so violently that he could be heard 10 rows from the ring-side. Weinert was greatly distressed after th| knock-out. He was carried to Wills' corner where the seconds of both men worked over him.

Although Wills had been warned before the contest against the practice of hugging his man close with his left and pounding his kidneys with tho right, he soon had recourse to this violent and painful procedure. Weinert screamed for the referee and the crowd hooted.

Weinert was hit right outj of the ring in the first round and was badly punished throughout.. Wills occasionally hit low although he was warned not to do so.

Harry Greb, middle-weight boxing champion, defeated Mickey Walker, welter-weight champion, the' challenger, in a 15 rounds contest. Greb had the advantage in weight by 71b.

The contest was one of the fastest and hardest seen in the ring at the New York polo ground since the DempseyFirpo contest two years ago. Greb was the aggressor moSt of the time. He had Walker half unconscious on the ropes in the 14th round and would have knocked him out, but was too excited to deliver the finishing blow. Joe Lynch and Jack Sharkey fought a draw and Dave Shade knocked out Jimmy Slattery in the preliminary bouts.
