Members of the Sydney City Coihicjl who belong to the Reform party have made an official protest, to Ihe Lord Mayor. Alderman Stokes, against 'the Town Hull having been used lor the entertainment <>f the Irish Republican delegates, Misses Barry and Kearns, on | Tuesday. They have also protested ; against, the. omission of llie loyal toast j at the gathering. [ One of the aldermen responsible for , the protests stated to-day that the j citizens of Sydney as a whole were loyal j to (he Kin-; and to the Empire. Only a j small and insignificant, minority would j desire, the Town Hall to be used for the i encouragement and support of men and , women who were, he alleged, not only ! disloyal to the King and the Empire j but also to the Irish Free Stale Govern- j ment. The precedent set by the Lord Mayor, said the alderman, was one which re- | doutided to the discredit of the city. All j loyal citizens were much pained and j grieved by the incident.
