MARCONI'S WIRELESS.
INSTALLING BEAM SERVICES. NEW ISSUE OF SHARES. (Received 12.35 a.m.) Router. LONDON. Feb. 17. The Marconi Company's report says that experiments in the development of directional short-wave, long-distance wireless have exceeded anticipations. Recent tests have shown that continuous day and night communication with Australia can be secured. The work of installing the beam system plants will begin at the end of February and the scheme for an Empire wireless chain is within sight of early completion. The company is now discussing with the British Post Office the terras of a license to erect and work stations to communicate with the Continent and European foreign countries, thus establishing a world-wide network of stations. In order to finance a programme of Empire and foreign services 500,000 new £1 shares arc being offered to shareholders at 27s 6d per share. BROADCASTING STATIONS. GREAT UNKING-UP SCHEME. (Received 9.5 p.m.) Reuter. NEW YORK Feb. 17. Plans are announced for linking up 18 wireless broadcasting stations east of the Mississippi River. They will have a combined range of 12,800,000 homes.
