PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT.
POWER BOARD'S BUSINESS. CONFIDENCE IN THE STAFF. The method of purchasing electrical equipment by the Auckland Electric Power Board was under discussion at yesterday's meeting of the hoard. For the information of members, a statement showing schedules of purchases from various local firms was prepared. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, said there had been some complaints from firms regarding the purchases made by the board. It had been the board's experience, however, that certain firms catered especially for the board's requirements, and the _b.oard always bought in the cheapest market. As a result of the complaints which had been made, the officer in charge of the purchasing department was vory upset and had asked for a sub-committee to be set up to go into the matter. Other members thought that the setting up of a committee of investigation would be an insult to the board's purchasing staff, in whom the board had the fullest confidence. On the motion of Mr. E. H. Potter it was decided to receive the statement of purchases and* to take no action in the matter. The board also expressed its satisfaction with its purchasing staff.
