PORT OF WHANGAREI.
SHIPPING INCREASES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAKEI. Wednesday. Returns of shipping to and from the port of Whangarei for 1924 show that 1262 vessels entered the harbour during the year, being an increase of 51 over the previous year's returns. The net tonnage was 22,580, an increase of 3850 for the year. The number of passengers that travelled to and from tho port by sea was 37,334, as against 33,653 for the previous year, an increase of 3681, despite railways competition, Tha estimated tonnage of exports was 128,140, an increase of 11,830 on the 1923 returns, while the imports amounted to 24,639 tons, a decrease of 2919 tons for the year.
