DROWNED IN A RIVER.
FATALITY AT MERCER.
DEATH OF A LITTLE GIRL.
A little girl, Grace Phyllis Barron, aged five years and eight months, fell into the Waikato ltiver from tho wharf at Mercer on Tuesday evening and was drowned. Tho child, who was a daughter of Mr. J. T. Barron, sawmill worker, of Mercer, was playing with her brother, Kenneth, aged 12, on tho wharf, when she overbalanced and fell into the water. An attempt at rescue was made by tho lad who was unable, however, to locate the child. Tho body was subsequently recovered, but, resuscitativo efforts proved unavailing. An inquest was held before the district coroner, Mr. C. lv. Lawric, yesterday afternoon, when a verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
