BENZINE LOAD ABLAZE.

LORRY TOTALLY DESTROYED

DELAY CAUSED TO TRAFFIC.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Wednesday.

Tho Mountain Road was blocked near Inglewood for an hour or two this morning by a blazing motor-lorry loaded with benzine. It was in the middle of the road and the flames prevented other vehicles from passing, with the result that a considerable amount of traffic was held up.

The lorry, which was owned by the Waitara Carrying Company, was loaded with 160 cases of benzine. It caught fire when near the site of Brown's Mill, a short distance from Inglewood, and the driver (A. E. Lovett) was only just able to pull up and leave his seat in time to avoid injury by the flames. The fire had to be left to bum itself out, a process which took some time.

It is understood that the lorry was practically a new one and was insured.
