FURTHER LOAN OF £12.000.

The Devonport Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. Lamont, presiding. There were also present, Messrs. S. Luxford, E. H. Little, A. V. Fraer, S. Bond, J. Hislop, E. Aldridge, W. Perry Taylor, J. Mays.

The Waitemata Chamber of Commerce i wrote drawing the council's attention to the fact that no provision had' been made for completing the section, of roading in the merged area in Lake Road, connecting with the Takapuna Road, j It was resolved to advise the chamber that tins section of the road was not included in the loan proposals and loan money could not.be expended on it. Its formation, However, was not'being lost sight of, and in all probability the work would be undertaken out of revenue whilo Lake Road was. under construction. The Mayor reported that the contract for the next four sections had been satisfactorily arranged with the New Zealand Road Construction Company, Ltd., for £53,857. The formation of Lake Road would be put in hand immediately and the contractors' estimated the four sections would be completed in eight months. A financial statement showing the position of the street loan account was submitted. With the work in hand and contracts entered into, the full amount of £120,000 had been absorbed. t The council resolved to exercise its authority; in the direction of raising a further loan of £12,000, ias permitted under the terms of the existing loan account. The North Shore Cricket Club asked for the council's co-operation in providing a grandstand on the Domain. The council agreed to ask the cricket club to call a meeting of all the local sporting bodies in Devonport to which they, would give their support and co-operation in carrying out the proposal. A tender of £66 for firemen's uniforms was accepted.
