HUTT ROAD FATALITY.
CHARGES AGAINST MARRIS.
POLICE ALLEGE CALLOUSNESS.

. As a sequel to the recent fatality on the Hutt Road, when Henry Gerard received injuries from which ho died, as the result of being knocked down by a motor-car, Walter Frederick Marris, the driver of the car which caused the fatality, appeared in Court to-day, and pleaded guilty to "failing to stop after the accident and give his name and address," and also to driving at an excessive speed. Defendant was fined a total of £15. It was stated on his behalf that he saw another car stop where he had knocked Gerard down, and thought it was all right. The chief detective replied that defendant had speeded up to avoid detection, and described the case as one of utter callousness.
