MOTOR-CARS ON EIRE.

TAXI SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. UNFORTUNATE COINCIDENCE. A taxi-car owned by Mr. E. Belchamber was slightly damaged by fire while: standing on the Karangahape Road rank at 2.11 a.m. yesterday. The City Fire Brigade quickly extinguished the flames. It is thought that the outbreak was probably caused by the fusing of the .ba'-tery wires. ' By a curious coincidence Mr. Belchamber had just returned from a trip to the Kohimarama-Orakei Boad, on which he passed a burning car. Police inquiries yesterday elicited the fact that the car passed by Mr. Belchamber belonged to Mr. C. P. McDonald, land agent, of Karangahape Boad. It was stated that the car was being driven by one of Mr. McDonald's assistants returning from a business trip when the engine backfired with the result that the car was ignited.
