OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
NEW LYNN HOUSE BURNED.
QUEEN ST. PREMISES DAMAGED.
A bungalow, owned and occupied by Mr. G. H. Grayson, in Golf Koad,. New Lynn, was destroyed by fire at 4.30 a,m. yesterday. In the absence of a fire brigade nothing could be done to save the building or contents/except a few personal effects gathered up by the occupants as they made a hurried 1 escape. The fire, it is thought, originated in the rear of the building. The insurances are £600 on the building and £200 of the furniture. It is understood that Mr. Grayson will be a heavy loser. The 'City iW. Brigade' received a call at 6.47 a.m. yesterday to.premises at 264, Queen Street, owned by Mr. C. F. Bennett, and occupied by Mrs. L. Hoban, dressmaker. The fire, which was caused by an electric iron which had been left /with the current switched' on, was suppressed by the brigade before much damage was done. The building is insured for £7000 in the New Zealand Insurance Company, and the contents for £1000 in theLO.A, office.
A maliciously given false alarm from the corner of Wood and Ryle Streets resulted in two fire engines from the city and western districts' fire stations turning out shortly before 10 o'clock last night.
