HEAVY TRAFFIC PROBLEM.
MANUKAU COUNTY POSITION
WAITING FOR LEGISLATION.
Traffic conditions were briefly discussed yesterday at the meeting of the Manukau County Council. The subject was introduced by the memorandum of the Mayor of Auckland, Sir James Gunson, presented to the City Council at its last meeting. Mr. S. W. House said that the other day he had seen a 10-ton motor lorry going along a Mangere road at the rate of 30 miles an hour. No road would stand that. He thought the matter of fast speeds and heavy loads might be the subject of a remit to the Counties Association.
The chairman, Mr. F. M. Waters, said they would have to wait for the Motor Vehicles Bill. In tho meantime, tlie trouble was going on every day. It was a huge problem, as motor lorry transport was 10 or 15 years ahead of road construction. Motor traffic would increase with better roads, and he could not at present see daylight in the matter, though there was no doubt the ■ difficulty would be overcome.
