TARANAKI TEAM WINS.
The annual home and home rifle teams' match, fired in various centres of the North Island last month, under the auspices of the National Rifle Association of New Zealand, was won by the Taranaki team, which registered a very fine performance." Each team consisted of 12 men. the ranges being 300, 600 and 600 yards, seven shots at er-oh range. Taranaki won with the excellent score of 1177 points, an average of 98 l-!2th per man. The winning team fired on the Patea range in ideal weather. Wellington came second with 1141 points, an average of 95 l-12th per man. This team fired on the Trentham. range. Rangitikei, the winning team last year, was: third with 1129. This shoot was on the Bulla range. Auckland fired on the Penrose range, and came sixth, with 1100. Several brilliant "individual scores were recorded, the best effort being that of Captain C. Simmonds, of Wanganui, New Zealand champion, who notched 33 at 300, and finished his 'shoot with a possible at 600 and 600 yards, his grand total being 103 out of a possible 105. The next best scores were by G. H. Cross (Taranaki) and W. H. Ballinger (Wellington), 102 each; G. Taylor (New Plymouth), W. Kslls (P.ilmerston North), 101; F. J. Soler (Wanga: nui) and- D. Calder (Patea), 100. Scores of 99 were secured by A. E. Robertson (Hawera), R. E. Hester and R. H. Nicholl (Wellington).
