STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone of the Auckland shareroarket yesterday was dull. There was inquiry for almost, all classes of Government securities at late rates, sellers at the find call quoting only for the 1927 and 1938 War Loans and 1927 Inscribed. Auckland Gas debentures, the 5 per cent. 1932 issue, had sale at £91. In banks, Australasias were sought .at £13 4s, sellers £13 Bs. Buyers offered £6 17s for Nationals without response. Sellers remained at £41 5s for New South Wales, buyers closing at £40 17s 6d. Unions had inquiry at £14 12s 6d, sellers £14 14s 6d. In insurance, sellers quoted 76a and 41s 6d for Nationals and Standards respectively, but ■ there were no offers. New Zealand* were steady at 29s 6d and 30s. Buyers advanced offers for South British to 40s 6d without response. • In finance, sellers quoted £13 17s 6d and "53s for Dalgety's and Goldsbrough Mort. respectively, r trat there were no buyers, j River Plate .'had steady inquiry at 20s 3d, while holders of Loan and Mercantile quoted £92 i,gainst offers of £8/. Ihe preference issue remained at £77 and i/w. In gas, Aucklands were sought at 25s 6d, sellers 25s Bd. In shipping, Devonport Ferries were at 27s 6d v buyers 26s 6d. Howard Smiths had inquiry at 365, sellers 37 Buyers of Huddarfc-Parkers &d----vanced to 42s 9d without response Offers of £280 for P. and 0. (deferred) were met by quotations of £295. In nilscellaneouj Wilsons Cement were done at 29s 6d. In mining considerable in. terest was displayed in Waihis, successive sales taking place at 31s, 31a 3d, 31s od, and 31s 6d, The market closed at 31s 4d and 31s 6d. Grand Junctions were steady at 2s 7d and 3s. The following sales took place:— Auckland Gas debentures, 1932. 5 per cent., £91 Wilsons Cement, 29s Od; Waihis, 31a, 31s 3d, 31s sd, 31s 6d.
