GOOD WORK BY BRIGADE. ADJOINING PREMISES SAVED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN j CORRESPONDENT.] TE. MHTI. Wednesday. By an outbreak of fire shortly beiore midnight on Tuesday the offices <-ot Messrs. Barraud and '■ Abraham were completely gutted, and the stock in the large grocery and hardware store at the rear was badly damaged 'by heat and water. '■ , ■,-,/• - • , : . The brigade turned out promptly and though the flames had a good hold on the front of the building the fire was quickly got in hand. The building was of wood and iron, and other similar onus which closely surrounded it had a narrow escape. ' The insurances are:—Stock in trade as general merchants, £4500; building, £2000; office furniture and fittings, £300. The stock is fully covered, but the loss on the building is estimated at £1000 and on the office contents at £300. , The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to have been the fusing of an electric wire. .''•-'....'.■'. The firm's books were in a strong room and were not injured.
