ATTACK UPON WOMAN.
MAN IN SCANTY ATTIRE. HOT CHASE IN HAMILTON. \ CAPTURE AND ESCAPE. FURTHER SEARCH FRUITLESS. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN COB RESPONDENT. J HAMILTON. Sunday. While walking along London Street, a well-lighted thoroughfare, at about 10.30 on Friday evening, a married woman was accosted and knocked down by a, man clad only in a singlet. He had dashed out from a hedge, but the occurrence was witnessed by three young men, Messrs. A. Gate, A. Wylie, and A. Devecourt, who gave chase. They caught the man, ,took him to where he had left his clothes in a clump of trees, and made him dress himself. Then they walked him toward the Frankton police station. The man attempted to escape, but was recaptured. The young men then asked a passing bus-driver to take their charge to the police station, but he refused. As the man was being conducted through Hinemoa Park he again broke away and this time eluded his pursuers in a deep gully. All efforts to find him had proved fruitless up to five o'clock on Saturday ovening. A full description of the man has been uupplied to the police. It is stated that three assaults of the nature described have occurred in the vicinity of London Street within the last fortnight, while some months ago the police received two complaints of children being interfered with near Hinemoa Park.
