SIR R. W. JEANS.
Australian and N.Z. Cabl* Association, CRecd. 7.55 p.m.) LONDON v April 13. The death is announced of Sir Richard Walter Jeans, banker. Sir R. W. Jeans was a director and general manager of the Bank of Australasia, and chairman of the Australasian Bank Managers* Committee. He was born in 1846, and had latterly resided at Surbiton, Surrey, England. He was -created a knight in 1922. ________
MR. A. L. SMITH.
(Received 8.56 p.m.) Router. LONDON. April '3. The death has occurred of Mr. Arthur Lionel Smith, master of Balliol College, Oxford. ■ __ Mr A L. Smith had been master of Balliol College since 1916, having previously been tutor and dean. He was born in December, 1860, and was educated at Christ's Hospital and Balliol. He was a Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford, 18741879, examiner in modern history at several British universities; Ford lecturer in English history, 1905; curator of the Bodeleian Library; trustee of the Oxford University Endowment Fund; delegate for university extension; and member of the Hebdomadal Council, 1920.
