STOCKS AND SHAKES.

The tone of the Auckland sharemarket- yesterday was good. In New, Zealand Government securities, War Loans, 1938, wero quoted at £97, buyers offering £96 10s. The 1927 issue at £97 7s 6d was wanted at £97. Soldiers' Loan, both bonds and inscribed stock, were on offer at £101, buyers £100 10s. In banks Unions of Australia changed hands at £14 6s, late buyers offering £14 45,, without response. New Zealands had buyers at 525, holders quoting 52s 3d. There was inquiry for Nationals of New Zealand at £6 14s, sellers £6 17s. In insurances New Zealands were Wanted at 30s, sellers quoting at 30s 3d. South British at 40s 6d were sought at 40s 3d. In timber there was a sale of Nationals at 225, more being required at that figure, sellers 22s 3d. In miscellaneous lines Wilsons New Zealand Cements had sale at 29s 6d, late sellers asking 30s, buyers 295. In mining Waihis had sale at 30s 6d, with more wanted at that price, sellers asking 30s 94. Grand Junctions at 4s lOd : were sought at 4s Bd. The following sales took place:— Union Bank of Australia, £14 6s; Naflional Timber, 225; Wilsons New Zealand Portland Cement, 29s 6d; Waihis, 30s 6d.
