FIRE IN DOMAIN.
GRANDSTAND OUTBREAK. .DAMAGE ONLY i SLIGHT. > ORIGIN IN A LOOKER. * An outbreak of fire in the Domain grandstand was discovered at midnight last night, but fortunately it was extinguished with but little damage to the [ building. '■- V'' /•■ ' '\-f- '"",- : \ The alarm was given by passers by who noticed the smoke and g low at the back of the stand, and , rang the firebell near the junction of Carlton Gore and Park Roads. The caretaker ... Mr. W. Pearce, whose house is, only about 100 yards away, and several passers "• by and residents, aroused by the bell, hurried to the stand, and checked the spread of the flames with buckets of water. The Newmarket and city brigades were soon on the scene, and the outbreak was extinguished in half an hour. Bucket* only were utilised, it not being necessary to couple up the hose. The fire, which originated in a locker in one of the dressing rooms at the back of the grandstand, burned through the outside wall, and also spread through the top of the wall of a bathroom. Only a comparatively small area in the immediate vicinity of the locker was affected,
