For a loan proposal to foe carried by a fifth of a vote is surely a record for New Zealand. The proposal *to raise £13,150 for installing roads in Kiwitahi Riding was carried by the barest of majorities— of a vote. The voting resulted:—For the proposal, 23; against the proposal, 15. A three-fifths majority of the votes polled is necessary to carry a loan such as this. In this case 38 votes were recorded, three-fifths of this number being 22 4-sths. As the number of votes cast for the proposal totals 23, the loan will, " therefore, be duly carried. ,
